Today’s Reading | Luke 6
Responding to Others
What are the four ways we are to respond to the ungrateful and the wicked found verses 27-28? Number them in your Bible. Did you notice that in each case Christ asks us to respond with mercy, the opposite of how we are treated. Some hate us, yet we are to do good to them. Some curse us, yet we are to respond with kind words to them and about them. They mistreat us, yet we pray for them. Christ gives us practical examples of just what He expects of us in verses 29-36. He tells us that it is no credit to us if we love those who treat us with consideration and kindness, but it speaks volumes about us to love those who treat us wrongly. Can you think of someone that you have had situations with due to their mistreating you, one who hates or curses at you that needs you to respond in the way Christ asks in these verses? Try to think of some ways you can demonstrate the godly character required of us which is found in this passage. Ask God to give you the strength today to demonstrate the difference Christ has made in the way you treat others. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. The world will notice.
