Expectation for Giving
What standard does God have for giving to the church? When does He expect you to give? How can you know if God is pleased with what you are putting in the offering plate? These questions are not only important today, they were issues in the church in Corinth,. Paul closes his letter by addressing them. First, he gave instruction that people were to give every week. Not once a month, not every other week, but they were to give every week. How often do you put money in the offering plate at your church? Second, what was the standard for how much they were to give? According to Paul, it was dependent upon their income. Everyone is expected to give, and the amount they give is determined by their income. God knows how much you make. In reality, He is the one who provides your income regardless of who signs the check. How do you do with these instructions? It is shameful that many believers are not taught that God has expectations for giving for them. When was the last time you took a portion of what you made from your job and put it in the offering plate at church? This week would be a good time to get started honoring God in proportion to the blessings He has poured out on you.
