Today’s Reading | Matthew 13:1-52
Types of Soil
How many different soils does Christ mention in the parable of the sower? Number them in your Bible. Since three of the four responses seem positive at first, how can you tell who really does believe and therefore is saved? What this passage shows is that it is possible to have what looks like a positive response to the Gospel and even show temporary signs of being saved, but not really be saved. Many people get really excited and tell everyone about it, like the second person, only to die out when the tough times come. Another doesn’t get excited at all, but still seems to show signs of being saved. However, after a while, he begins to choose the world’s temptations over God’s plan for his life. Too often, a person believes he is saved based on a past decision and an illusion of temporary fruit when, in fact, he is not saved. He is really like the seed that fell on rocky places or thorns. Who do you know like that? You? Or a friend? Ask God to give you an opportunity to talk with him about how he stands before God. Use the sheet below to prepare yourself.
