Today’s Reading | Matthew 17
Whose Strength?
How do you think Peter, James and John felt when they were coming down the mountain? What daydreams do you think they had about what they could accomplish after an experience like that? How do you think they felt when they got back and saw the other disciples’ failure? How do you think the disciples not being able to cast out the demon affected Christ? What a discouragement it must have been for Him to watch the disciples try to do something in their own strength and fail – fail because they had such little faith. In Mark’s account we find that Jesus also told them that they failed because they did not pray. They had a problem and decided to just go ahead in their own strength and try to solve it without taking the time to pray and get God’s counsel and strength. How often do you try to do things in your own strength? What situation are you presently facing that you are fighting and losing because you have not given it to God, but are trying to solve it in your own power? Like the disciples, learn to give everything to God in prayer and allow Him to work in your life.
