Today’s Reading | Matthew 19
Perspective on Riches
What kind of person does Christ say in verse 24 has a very hard time getting to heaven? What about riches is so attractive? Why do you think it is so hard for rich people to get to heaven? Scripture is so very clear in telling us that riches are one of the most dangerous things we can face in our spiritual growth. If riches are so dangerous to our spiritual life, why do we pursue them so hard? It is interesting to watch everyone, including Christians, always trying to make more money. They get part time jobs, they seek raises, or they choose which career to pursue based on its pay scale. Yet Scripture is clear that it is much harder to walk with God as a rich man than one who is not. If that is so, then why do we want more money? Maybe we out to choose the path that allows us to walk in the riches of the Kingdom, regardless of whether it involves worldly wealth. In what ways do people around you pursue riches? What are you pursuing? How are you deciding what you want to do with your life? Ask God to help you to see riches as He does and to avoid pursuing them over Him. Read verses 29-30 again to remind you of the perspective God wants you to have about riches.
