Today’s Reading | Matthew 28
Make Disciples
What did Jesus want the disciples to do in verses 16-20? Circle in your Bible the different things they were to do. How do these instructions differ from what He told them in Matthew 10:5-7? In one case He told them to make disciples. In the other case, He told them to tell people the kingdom of heaven was at hand. What is the difference between making disciples and telling people the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand? One involves what we would call evangelism; while the second one involves much more. To fulfill the first charge, they would have only to be involved in evangelism. That is, share the gospel and lead people to Christ. To make disciples, we not only lead them to Christ, but we help them to become like Christ. This charge, in verse 16-20, includes what He said in chapter 10, but goes so much further. It involves becoming a part of their lives to help them grow. How are you doing with making disciples? Who are some people that are more like Jesus Christ because of your influence on their lives? How can you begin today, “making disciples?”
