Today’s Reading | Acts 1
An Unlocked Door?
How, in this chapter, did the disciples demonstrate they were growing in their faith? One example is found by what has been omitted in this chapter, not what is written. Their growth was depicted by what they did not do. In John chapter twenty, we read that when the disciples gathered in the room, they locked the door for fear of the Jews. Even though they had seen Jesus after His resurrection, they still locked the doors in fear. However, here in this chapter, they gathered again, but now the doors were not locked. They had gathered together to pray and to select a new man as an apostle to replace Judas. This time they were not so afraid of the Jews that they felt it necessary to lock the door. It is very encouraging to see specific ways in which we are growing. We should never be satisfied with where we are spiritually, but we can be encouraged to see how far we have come.
