About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them. | Acts 16:25

Today’s Reading | Acts 16

Responding to Difficulty

How would you react if you were imprisoned for something you did not do? A false accusation can be extremely discouraging. In today’s reading we read of Paul and Silas being imprisoned wrongly after being beaten and placed in stocks. What was their response? What were the next things to take place in the prison in verse 25 and following? How would you have responded? Would you have started to sing? Which is more challenging to you, the fact that they were singing after being beaten or that after they were free they did not run? Their response to the circumstances they found themselves in resulted in the jailer and his whole family being saved and baptized. Could your reactions be influencing others to walk toward or away from God? The most difficult time in our lives show our heart of hearts. What do they tell you about you? What are they telling others about you?

Today’s Questions

Say What?

What difficult circumstances are you facing right now?

So What?

What is your response communicating to others?

Now What?

Is your response helping or hindering what God might want to accomplish? How?

Then What?

Write a commitment outlining your response to those circumstances from now on.
