Today’s Reading | Revelation 2:1-7
I Hold This Against You
Over the next seven days we will be reading God’s personal message to the seven churches. These were actual local bodies of believers to whom this book was written. In most cases, the letters contain positive characteristics and then God revealed what was wrong with each of them. Today we read about the church in Ephesus. This was a church that had much to be proud of. A positive characteristic God gave to these believers was that they had persevered in the midst of hardship. It was not a church which had given in when the pressure was on. It was also a church that did not tolerate wickedness. It was, however, a church who had lost it’s first love. The joy and excitement they once had about their faith was gone. The fire that once burned bright was out, and they were just going through the motions. God called them to remember where they once had been, repent and come back to the place they had previously held. Could this be true of you or your church? Have you or has your church lost the fire and passion of earlier days? If so, remember, repent, and do what you once did. Losing your first love is serious.
