Today’s Reading | Revelation 2:8-11
Be Faithful
Imagine that someone came to you at work and told you that when you left the building, you were going to be beaten because of the stand you had taken for Christ. What thoughts would run through your mind? That is exactly what happened to this church. The church in Smyrna had two characteristics that they were known for. They were afflicted and were poor. Yet in spite of that, God said that they were rich. They did not allow their afflictions or their poverty to cause bitterness or discouragement. God informed them that Satan would attack them. He would put some of the believers in prison and they would suffer for ten days. Their challenge? – To remain faithful to God and He would give them the crown of life. It would have been a comfort to them to know that God was watching and knew exactly what was going on in their lives. He would help and reward them for their faithfulness. Are you experiencing opposition in your life in which you need this encouragement? Underline verse ten to remind you to remain faithful.
