Today’s Reading | Revelation 3:1-6
I Know Your Deeds
Can you imagine being in the church at Sardis when this letter was read? Everyone gathered together after having been told that a letter had arrived from God. The church sat quietly, waiting to hear what God had to say about what was right and what was wrong with them. God began by reminding them that He knew their deeds and was aware of their reputation for being spiritually alive. When people evaluated this church, it was obvious that God was at work and that it was filled with spiritual life and power. The obvious conclusion was that God was pleased and proud, but the reality was “I know you are dead.” Although their reputation was that they were alive, they weren’t. They fooled even themselves. His challenge – “wake up!” He warned that what life remained was about to die. Think about how true this is for us. Our churches are not doing all they could or should. Could God say this about your life or your church? Our response? – To remember obedience and repentance. Do people think you are alive, but inside you know you are dead? As you take an honest look at your own life and your church, what do you see?
