Today’s Reading | John 1:1-34
He Must Increase
What characteristics do you observe in John the Baptist in this chapter? What characteristics does he specifically demonstrate in verses 15 and 26-27? It becomes clear as you read this section of Scripture that John was not the kind of person who tried to make himself look better than he really was. He was not jealous of anyone who received more attention than he did. He seemed to have no trouble allowing Christ and His ministry to exceed his own. He even encouraged people to follow Christ instead of him. When asked about himself, he told people the truth. He would not allow people to think something about him that was not true. Do you try to draw attention to yourself or to others? When people ask questions, do you make what you have done seem better than it really is? Would you allow someone in your youth group to get more attention than you get for similar accomplishments? Do you direct the attention and glory to God or to yourself? In what areas of your life do you need to be more like John? Use the opportunities God brings to point others to Christ.
