Seeking Praise From Who?
Circle all the different people or items which Jesus said testify about who He was in verses 31-40. Since there were many powerful testimonies about who He was, why didn’t the people believe? The answer is found in verses 41-44. In these few verses, Christ told them their unbelief was because they were more interested in what people thought about them than what God thought. In fact, Jesus said that He knew that they weren’t saved because they made no effort to obtain praise from God, but only the praise that comes from men. This incident may tell you something about your personal walk with God. A common problem among Christians is that we have the ability to see the reality of who God is, but miss it because we care more about what people think than we do about what God thinks. Do you consider your friend’s opinion more important than God’s? Can you think of a time when you did something only to please God? If not, it is time to act on what God wants for you, not what others want. If you do not consider what pleases Him, you may not be saved. Seek only the praise that comes from God, not the praise of men.
