Claims of Christ
How many times did Jesus refer to Himself using the phrase, “I am?” Circle them in your Bible. Sometimes Christians have the mistaken belief that Jesus never claimed to be God. We find however, that He said it over and over in this section of Scripture. Every time He used the phrase, “I am,” He was calling Himself by a name that the Jews knew was reserved only for God. He was not trying to trick or confuse them. He came right out and let people know exactly who He was, and why He had come to this earth. What He said in verses 27-28 must have haunted them after His death. Jesus claimed to be God, sent to pay the penalty for their sins. He said that He would die, and then He would rise from the dead, which would prove His claims. How could those people miss a message so clearly given and proven? How have you responded to His message? Have you trusted Christ as your Savior, or have you rejected Him as these did? Today, you can be like those mentioned in verse three and put your faith in Him. If you have already trusted Christ, how can you share what the Bible says about Jesus Christ with a world that needs to know?
