Today’s Reading | John 21
A Second Chance
Describe the different emotions Peter must have experienced in this chapter. From overwhelming guilt over his denial to overwhelming hope that he could be forgiven and still used by God. Peter denied Christ in public, in a dreadful way. He had denied Christ by telling people he did not even know Him. As a result, he had given up and gone back to fishing, even taking some of the disciples with him. He had been given a position of leadership. He had every opportunity to become someone who accomplished great things for God. But, he blew it. Jesus took Peter aside and let him know that he was forgiven and could be given another chance. In a word, he got a “do over.” Christ told him He still expected him to take care of His sheep. Everyone of us can have the same opportunity. Like in Peter’s life, God’s forgiveness provides for us a “do over” – an opportunity to confess our sin and have God put our lives back together. As you look forward to next month, spend time today reviewing this past month. Confess your sin and begin tomorrow with a clean slate.
