Being Transformed
In today’s reading, Paul makes a major shift in how he has been writing in this book. Did you notice it? He has been discussing doctrinal issues and how we ought to live in light of the truth he has described. He now begins with the practical ways these truths ought to impact our lives. One of the ways found in this section is to not allow ourselves to be conformed to the world. And how do we keep ourselves from being conformed to the world? The answer to that question is simple. It is just hard to accomplish. To keep ourselves from being conformed to the world, we must be transformed. How? According to verse two, we are transformed by renewing our minds. This is the key to not allowing ourselves to be conformed to the world. We renew our minds by saturating it daily with God’s Word, the Scripture. We renew our minds by memorizing Scripture so that we can recall it when we need to. We renew our minds by refusing to allow the pollution of the world to enter it. Renewing our minds means controlling what we allow to enter into it. It is simple to do, but hard to carry out. We must all be aware of what we allow in our minds. Have you been?
