Today’s Reading | Mark 3:1-19
Stubborn Hearts
Why did Jesus become angry with the Pharisees (vs5)? In what way did they demonstrate this attitude in the account that Mark records for us? Jesus performed a miracle right before their eyes, and instead of seeing it for what it was, they saw it as a violation of the law. Unbelievable! They were so stubborn, they were willing to join forces with the terrorists of their day, the Herodians, who were willing to murder people in order to overthrow Rome. These Pharisees missed an exciting miracle because their stubborn hearts would not allow them to see it. How blind they were to the needs of hurting people, and yet so focused on “getting” Jesus. Christ chose to meet the needs of people even if it violated other people’s religious traditions and customs. In what way do you demonstrate a stubborn unbelieving heart? Is there someone in your world who has experienced a miracle, but your focus is only on what was wrong with it or why he didn’t deserve it? Do you look beyond the circumstances to see hurting people? Could God be angry with you? If you see signs of a stubborn heart, begin to change it today.
