Lessons From the Soil
In the parable of the sower, identify what the different items represent. What does the seed illustrate? Who is the farmer? What do the soils illustrate? This parable demonstrates to us that people respond to the Gospel message in very different ways. Some reject it immediately after they hear it. Others may appear as if they have accepted it, but over time we see that they did not. The Scriptures teach that over time you will see the true response people have had to the gospel. Another group we see in this parable, are those who walk away from their commitment to Christ when trouble or persecution because of their faith comes. Others get caught up in the desire for money, fame, sports, music, etc. and soon those things take over God’s place in their lives. What kind of response have you had to the message of Christ? Has time revealed that you really did accept Christ, or is time telling you that maybe you did not? Take a few minutes today to look at your life and examine the fruit to see what it tells you about your faith. What kind of soil are you? What conclusion have you come to and what are you going to do?
