Today’s Reading | Mark 10:17-52
What Must I Do?
If someone came to you and asked the same question that Christ was asked in verse seventeen, what would you say? Would you give the answer that Christ gave? While the man said he came to find eternal life, he left discouraged with the answer Christ gave him. It would seem that although the man wanted to have eternal life, he did not want to give up what Christ indicated was necessary in order to get it. Christ clearly demands that we give up everything to follow Him. For some, becoming a Christian is not an easy thing to do. God does not want to just be part of our lives. Christ desires to be all of our lives. When we come to Christ, we are committing to allow Him to be the leader of our lives. What do you have right now that you have been unwilling to give up in order to follow Christ with your whole heart – friends? popularity? How comforting to then read verses 29-31 and realize that in reality we do not give anything up. In the margin of your Bible next to verses 29-31, write down what you find the most difficult to relinquish totally in order to follow Christ. Then pray that God will enable you to give it to Him.
