What Anger Reveals
When was the last time you became really upset about something? What does your response in those circumstances tell you about yourself? You can learn a lot about someone by looking at the kinds of things that make him angry. Some people get mad every time they do not get what they want or get left out of something. Others get mad when someone does not do what they think he should do. What conclusions can we come to about Jesus by looking at the circumstances in this passage that made him angry. We see that He cared deeply about the Lord’s house, and, when the actions of people demonstrated disrespect to God or His house, He became angry. His anger was never caused by something that someone did or did not do for Him. It wasn’t about getting His own way. He cared about how people treated and responded to each other. He demonstrated that He cared more about how people responded to His Father and others than He cared about Himself. Make a list today of those things that have gotten you angry in the past two weeks. Ask yourself why and what your anger tells you about yourself.
