Mark 11:27-12:12
Says Who?
Why did the Pharisees ask the question they did in verse 27? Did they really want to know the answer Christ had for them? Although it is a very important question, they apparently did not want the answer. They did not like what Jesus was telling them, so by questioning His authority, they weren’t obligated to listen to Him. People ask the same questions today. They usually ask the questions when they do not want to do what the Bible requires. They say, “Who gives you the right to tell me that?” Or, for example, a friend shares an area of concern from Scripture, and the attitude is: “Why should I listen to you?” or “Who do you think you are telling me that?” We must realize the answer to the question is often, “Almighty God!” He has given us the Bible as the absolute authority in our lives, and we must follow it. God has placed parents and others over us and He has given them their authority. All authorities in our lives have been placed there by God, and we should treat them with the respect that He demands. We may not like that answer, but it dictates our behavior. He expects our obedience. Respond as unto the Lord.
