Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. | Hebrews 2:17

Today’s Reading | Hebrews 2

Why Become a Man?

Why did Jesus Christ have to become a man? In today’s reading, we are given some very important reasons why Jesus had to come to earth as a man. One of those is found in verses nine and seventeen. Jesus Christ became a man so that He could die on behalf of all of us. He paid the price for our sin so that we do not have to pay it ourselves. A second reason is given in verse fourteen. Jesus Christ became a man so that He might destroy Satan and his power over death in order to free us from the fear of death. A third reason is given in verses seventeen and eighteen. This reason is so important for our daily living but few seem to realize it is true. We are told that Jesus Christ became a man so that He might become a merciful and faithful High Priest. Because He willingly became a man, He knows the daily experiences of a man and responds to us out of His personal knowledge of what we face. Verse eighteen tells us that He is able to help us when we are tempted because He has faced the same temptations. Jesus not only knows what we face today, but He is able to help each of us resist temptation. What temptation are you facing that you can take to Him for help?

Today’s Questions

Say What?

What temptations are you now facing?

So What?

How is your temptation like one that Jesus faced?

Now What?

How did Jesus respond to His temptations?

Then What?

Write a prayer asking Jesus to give you victory over specific temptations.
