Today’s Reading | Hebrews 3
A Hard Heart
So far in our reading of the book of Hebrews, we have come across two strong warnings to pay careful attention to the moving of God in our lives. We are further warned that when He does move in our lives, we need to respond. In the first four verses of chapter two, we are warned to not miss salvation. In today’s reading we are given another warning: not to harden our hearts and miss salvation. God knows it is possible to grow up in a Christian environment and be able to recite the truth and yet not have trusted Christ. God also knows it is possible to grow up around godly people and influences and yet allow our hearts to become hardened toward God. How do we avoid a hardened heart? According to verse seven, we should respond to God’s prompting. The author tells us that if we hear the voice of God today, we must respond immediately and not wait until another time. We must not excuse or justify a delay. When God convicts our hearts we must not wait until tomorrow to respond. If we don’t act upon conviction, we are heading for hardened hearts. Has God convicted you of an area that you have not yet responded to?
