Today’s Reading | Hebrews 12:1-13
Becoming People of Faith
Today we learn what we must do to become men and women of faith. We see the role we need to play, and the role God plays in us in order to become people of faith. First, we must “throw off.” We must do this in two important areas. In the first area, we must “throw off” everything that hinders. Those are the things which are not sin but slow us down and entangle us in our walks with God. Examples can be the TV, relationships, music, hobbies, videos, etc. In the second area, we must “throw off” any sin that is in our lives. We cannot tolerate any sin, large or small, and expect to become people of faith. Second, we must “run with perseverance.” We must realize this is a long race and run it without slowing down, no matter what we may face. Third, we need to focus on Jesus Christ. He needs to be our priority and the only one we seek to please. It is a comfort to know that, while we seek to do these three things, God will also do His work to keep us on track. How? Through His loving discipline. Whenever we veer off track, He will discipline us to get us back where we need to be. We, however, must allow it to train us and not resist the discipline involved. Get started today.
