Today’s Reading | Hebrews 13
Key to Contentment
How would you describe your life? Would you say you are happy? If you had little in the way of possessions, would you still be happy? You would be if you truly believe what we are told in today’s reading. In verse five, the writer of Hebrews makes a powerful statement. He tells us that we should be content with what we have, no matter how little that might be. Why? Because God has said He will never leave us or forsake us. In other words, even if we have nothing by the world’s definition of something, we should still be happy because God is with us. Even if we are not as attractive as we might want to be, God is with us. Even if we are not as popular as we want to be, God is with us. Even if we do not have the clothes we might want, God is with us. Even if we are not as talented as we might want to be, God is with us. This fact alone ought to make us content no matter what we have or where we are. To be unhappy with who we are or what we have is a statement to God that He is not enough. To believe that to be happy and content, we need something besides Him is wrong. What does your life say to God?
